CardDecko v0.2 by Blizo CardDecko v0.2 by Blizo
CardDecko
Alpha 0.2

It customizes the cardgames.dll file so you can add your own decks and backgrounds.

This is a huge achivement. These decks are added in a manner that is totally MS.

It does NOT overwrite your existing decks and backgrounds.

Nothing to it. Just choose some images and thats it. The actual cardsheet is created using the original sheets, so it still looks great.

Since this only mods the card games, there is no risk of destroying your install.

UPDATE:
Redid the UI and fixed some bugs. New bugs may have been introduced with the new UI.

Ok I love this it works (Im on a 64bit system). Heres step by step instructions.

INSTALL CARDDECKO
1) On the far right of the page just under the images, is a link that says Download File. Save or open this file. I recommend to start, putting it on your desktop.

2) Open My Computer and in the top navigation enter C:/ProgramData and press enter. Create a new folder and call it "CardDecko". Inside that folder, create another one called "Themes". You can also access this folder by navigating from the C drive to the ProgramData folder IF you have system files and folders unhidden.

2b) You probably do not want the application staying on your desktop. Go to your hard drive and into Program Files. Create a new folder and name it CardDecko. Drag the application inside this folder. Right click on the application and choose 'Create Shortcut'. Rename the shortcut (you can delete the .exe part in the shortcut). Then drag the shortcut to your Windows start menu icon and place it where you want it. I just placed mine in the Games folder.

3) Double click on the CardDecko.exe file you just saved, and it should load. Or, if you created a shortcut, click that instead.

ADDING THEMES WITH CARDDECKO

1) To change the appearance of the card deck, click Create New Deck. At the top, enter the name of the theme for this card deck. Next to the image of the back of the card, is a folder icon. Click this to select your JPG image. You can also select the four squares below that to change the outer color of the border of the card. Click Save & Exit.

2) To change the background of the game, click Create New Table. Again name this theme, then at the bottom select the folder icon to select your picture. Try to choose a background picture that is not too noisy. Also try picking an image that is high resolution.

APPLYING THEMES TO THE GAME
1) In the main CardDecko program you will see the themes you have created. To apply that theme to your game, click the theme, and you will see 3 icons appear. Click the + icon. Then, open a game as you normally would and go to Change Appearance, and you will see your theme in the list.

2) To delete a theme from CardDecko, simply click the X. To delete a theme that was applied to the game, in CardDecko click Installed Themes.

*I havent included how to import or export themes in this, as I havent done it. But it looks pretty self explanatory. The reason you would want to export (its the second icon down, under the X, when you click on a theme) is if you want to share your theme with another person who also has CardDecko. Import - if someone shared with you..

Seems i couldn't get it to work at first. I noticed the post about the themes folder, and since i didnt have one i made it (C:\ProgramData\CardDecko\Themes) after that, it worked. Hope this helps anyone else who has trouble getting this to run the first time. As to Blizo thank you for making this great program.

So as soon as you run it, you get that error?

Maybe a bad theme file?

Go to:

:\ProgramData\CardDecko\Themes

and rename the theme folder to something else and try again.

Let me know if that works.

I tried just deleting the last theme I installed and it worked again also. It was just the last table theme I installed. One for my wife, Edward from Twilight. It might just been the picture that did it. I've been able to install more tables and cards after deleting that one. and I tried installing it again and it crashes again. So, pretty much I think it was just that certain picture.

Good to know, for now I won't put that symbol in the title.

I guess I should mention that this is just the start. I only coded the basics. If this takes off then I plan on coding it so users can also do the "CardFronts". Custom Suits would be cool, but hard to code.

While poking around I also saw the code on how the games are drawn. This means moving things around on the table. Too bad this wouldnt be an "in game experience" since it would need to be switched BEFORE launching the game. No way of changing it while the game is running. Cant win em all right?

I havnt touched sounds either, again those would NOT be an "in game experience", they would also need to be set before launching any game.

If I recall there are 3 other games in the games folder that have their own dll resource. I have no plans on modding those. Sorry.

Oh, I fixed the bugs and will release the build tomorrow. Im going to see if any more bugs are reported.

Suggestions :
  • An option to disable the UI animations or make them fast.

  • After choosing an image, an option should be there to scale and select a part of the image that the user wants. An example of this is the new avatar system in deviantART.

  • A different icon

Bug:
After creating a background theme and deck theme for the first time, the delete button of Background Themes appears in the Deck Themes list and clicking it throws the following exception:

I checked out the DA avatar system. I could never get it to work in IE. I tried in Chrome and it worked.

Cool feature for any app. When I have free time, I will code my own twist to it and see how it works.

Thanks Kishan.

Its still an alpha, so there are a lot of loose ends I need to fix, like creating a new app icon.

I tried reproducing the delete bug, I couldnt. I deleted all deck folders, locked a file by opening it up. Still deleted. Weird.

About the image resizing, im leaving it as is. Its ment to be a generic option. The user can always open up their fav image editor and crop away.

I did find that the save button doesnt enable when creating a BG, I had to retype the name to get it to enable. But I already fixed that.

I removed the "hide default sets" checkbox. I only added it to make sure users didnt get confused with the theme manager area. I made a few changes including no longer listing the default cards and backgrounds. Waste of space since they are dummy entries.
